Short Biography<\/h3>\n

Prof. Daphna Joel received her Ph.D. in psychology\nin Tel-Aviv University in 1998, and joined the faculty of TAU, after\nreceiving the Alon fellowship for young Israeli scientists. She is\ncurrently a member of the School of Psychological Sciences and of the\nSagol School of Neuroscience. Prof. Joel studied the involvement of basal\nganglia-thalamocortical circuits in normal and abnormal behavior, using\nmainly animal models of psychopathology. More recently she has expanded\nher work to research questions related to brain, sex and gender.\nProf. Joel has published over 70 papers in refereed scientific journals\nand is also the author of Gender Mosaic: Beyond the Myth of the Male\nand Female Brain (Little, Brown, NY).<\/p>\n List of publications<\/a>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Fields of Interest<\/h3>\n

Prof. Joel studies questions related to brain, sex\nand gender, applying various analytical methods to analyze diverse\ndatasets, from large collections of brain scans to information obtained\nwith self-report questionnaires. In a series of papers, she has\ndescribed and tested the \u2018mosaic\u2019 hypothesis \u2013 the claim that sex\ndifferences in the brain do not add-up consistently in individuals; rather,\nmost brains are composed of both features more common in females and\nfeatures more common in males. Other studies focused on the\nperception of gender identity and its relation to sexuality.\nOngoing studies attempt to characterize the relations between sex and\nbrain structure and function.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
