Haya Stier
HAYA STIER is professor of Sociology and Labor Studies at Tel Aviv University. She joined Tel Aviv University in 1994 after holding a faculty position in the department of Sociology and Anthropology at Haifa University, Israel. Professor Stier received her PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago in 1990, and her B.A and M.A degrees in Sociology from Tel Aviv University. She served formerly as the chair of the Labor Studies Department, the head of the Institute for Social Research at Tel Aviv University and the editor of “Israeli Sociology“. She was the president of the ISA research committee on stratification (RC28)(ISA-RC28) and also directed the Welfare Policy Program at the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel.She serves on the editorial board of several Israeli and International journals.
Haya Stier’s research interests include issues of work, gender and the family, poverty and inequality. In her current research she is focusing on the effect of institutional arrangements on inequality in work quality; women’s work and family patterns and the organization of households.
