Sami Miaari is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Labor Studies at Tel Aviv University. He earned his B.A. in Economics and Mathematics in 2000, his M.A. with honors in Economics in 2003, and his PhD in 2008, all from the Hebrew University. His doctoral research focused on the economic costs of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He was the Henry Hart Rice Visiting Associate Professor at Yale University for the 2024\u20132025 academic year and a research fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University from 2017 to 2019. Between 2008 and 2009, he conducted postdoctoral research at the European University Institute. In 2011, he joined the German Institute for Economic Research, DIW Berlin, Germany, as a senior research fellow, where he worked on a study examining the impact of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on students\u2019 learning achievements. In 2011, he also joined the University of California, San Diego as a research fellow.

His fields of research include labour economics,\npolitical economy, the economic costs of conflict, the economic and political\ndeterminants of violence in developing countries, and economic inequality. \n <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

With over two decades of experience in academia,\npublic policy, and economic innovation, Professor Miaari is recognized for his\npioneering work on the economic dimensions of intergroup conflict. His research\noffers practical insights into conflict resolution and serves as a foundation\nfor evidence-based policymaking, particularly in contexts requiring substantial\ninvestment. He emphasizes the importance of establishing causal relationships\nin economic analysis to guide effective and targeted policy interventions. His\npapers have been published by, among others, The Journal of Population\nEconomics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal\nof economic Behavior & Organization, Labor Economics, Journal of the\nEuropean Economic Association, Review of economics of the Household, Defense\nand Peace Economics, International Labour Review,\nConflict Management and Peace Science, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of\nDevelopment studies, Acta Politica, Climate\nChange Economics and Oxford University Press<\/i>.

Beyond academia, Professor Miaari is an expert in\nthe fields of fintech, innovation, and financial education, with a particular\nfocus on youth and elderly individuals in minority communities.  His work addresses how financial services can\nbe tailored to better meet the needs of these groups. Since 2020, he has served\nas a board director at United Sick Fund \u2013 Meuhedet and, since 2016, as a\ndirector for public organizations such as Another Lesson<\/i>.

In recognition of his scholarly contributions,\nhe has received several prestigious awards, including the Best Paper Award<\/i> from the Middle East Economic Association in 2016, the Marie Curie\nIntra-European Fellowship<\/i> in 2017, and a Ma\u2019of Grant<\/i> from Israel\u2019s\nCouncil for Higher Education in 2012.

Professor Miaari has also led key international\nprojects, including work with the UK\u2019s Department for International Development\n(DFID) between 2012 and 2014. He served as an economist at the World Bank from\n2004 to 2008 and as a consultant for the World Bank (2012\u20132022) and the\nInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2009. In 2012, <\/a>Professor\nMiaari founded the Arab Economic Forum \u2013 an institute for economic and social\nresearch and strategic planning, and a business network for the Arab community\nin Israel. As part of his work as Chairman of the Forum, he advises large Arab\ncompanies on stock market flotations and major investments. He currently\ncontinues to give lectures, on a volunteer basis, to Arab high-school on topics related to guiding studies.<\/b>\n
