Idan is interested in minority political behavior, populism, and their counterintuitive intersection, with a geographical focus on the United States. He also leads research projects concerning minorities, immigration, and political behavior in Latin America and the Middle East. His research has appeared in the European Political Science Review and Groups, Politics, and Identities, and has been covered by major public outlets, such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Axios.

Idan holds a BA in political science and American studies, both majors magna cum laude, and an MA in political science, also magna cum laude, from Tel Aviv University
