Using an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing conflicts, Petr is working on defining armed conflicts according to the processes that cause escalations between groups. The central focus of Petr’s work is how narratives are created, shaped and changed by various actors in order to prepare groups to mobilize towards collective organized violence. In his dissertation, he is creating a typology of conflicts, based on those root parameters and escalation processes, showing which conflicts are similar and which are different. The logic behind it is that if the mechanisms that cause violence are similar, so is the pathway to resolution and reconciliation.
